The Art of Pete Woods

Beginning a new look

As I posted earlier this year, I’m trying some new stuff and hopefully improving some old tricks.  The most obvious change is the fact that I’m doing A LOT more shading than I have in the past.  the second thing I am trying to do is bring back more “punch.”  At the beginning of my career I was always trying to push everything- often to a ridiculous degree.  I made a conscious effort to step back a bit and attempt to imbue the work with more “realism.”  The pitfall with that approach- and one I think I fell into from time to time-  is that you can lose the dynamics that make comics so much fun. From here on in I’m trying to make each page more exciting than the last!

    Hi Pete,

I’m a Belgian fan of comics, and I recently discovered your outstanding work in some Superman adventures that you drew (and that I found in some French mags). I’ve been impressed by the quality of your work. I like those stories a lot.
This motivated me to cut the pages in the different issues of the mags in which your pages were published.
I just bundled all those pages and I have now two very personal books with your stuff in it.
I personalized the two books with my own covers too, and there I’ve a request for you.
I was wondering if you allow me to send those “hand-made” comics to you, and if you could sign them to my name with if possible a quick sketch on my covers.
Of course, I would prepare a self-addressed enveloppe for the return and support all the costs for postage.
I hope you’ll find some time in order to answer me, I hope you’ll send me a positive answer.
Once again, I’d like to congratulate your for your work, which is simply great.
I’m looking forward to read you.
    With my very best regards.
